Ms. Boyd's News: February 18

Dear Parents,

No school on February 17 as we will be celebrating President’s Day.

Parents and other students are invited to see ten of our Gate students who will be in character (reenacting famous African Americans as part of a living wax museum) in the library on February 21 from 1:00-2:00. I hope you can attend.

Students at Morris will be involved with various activities during this month to celebrate Black History Month. Grade levels have been assigned various career fields to research famous African Americans. We have Elaine Tibbs Rice coming on Feb. 20th from 10:00-12:00 to present to different grade-levels. Her presentation touches on freedom messages hidden in song and quilting.  Khari Blasingame, running back for the Tennessee Titans, will meet with 4th and 5th grade boys. We also will have dress up days: February 7-Head Wrap day; February 14-HBCU Attire; February 21-Famous Black Americans; February 28-African Attire.

We will be having an “AttenDANCE” (dance) scheduled for the end of the month on Feb. 28 for good behavior and great attendance for the month of February.

Each Friday a guest speaker reads to the students as part of our Parade of Readers. Continue to encourage our first graders to read.

Thank you again for supporting Morris Elementary. If you have any concerns, please contact the office and either Mr. Shingleton, our assistant principal, Ms. Parvin, our counselors, all the ladies in the front office or I will be glad to help.
