Leslie Graham

I attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham my freshman year of college, but I transferred to Auburn my sophomore year. I graduated from Auburn with a bachelor's degree in special education, and I was offered a fellowship to complete my master's degree in autism and behavior modification. I taught with great success and enjoyment at several Jefferson County Schools from 1998-2004. For one year, I was the lead teacher for a TEACCH classroom in Wake County Schools of Durham, North Carolina. I began teaching for Huntsville City Schools in January 2005 as an inclusion teacher for Mountain Gap.

As inclusion demands shifted and self-contained special education classes decreased, I missed teaching children. I obtained an additional teaching certificate in English Language Arts for grades four through twelve. I have been teaching English at Mountain Gap since 2007. When our school grew in population, another ELA teacher was hired. I currently teach eighth grade Honors English and Journalism.

My goal is for every student to grow no matter what the starting point may be. I want children to enjoy learning. I value and emphasize higher-level reading and writing. Communication is essential to success in the real world.
