Math Team

Mountain Gap Math Team is comprised of highly motivated 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who have a love for math and a desire to compete against other teams to showcase their talents. Students are taught and practice skills that they have not yet seen in their math classes. A curriculum, from The Art of Problem Solving series, is used to help prepare students for competitions. In ciphering competitions, speed and accuracy are factors, so these skills are practiced weekly. At tournaments, students compete on individual and team levels. Each member of the team is eligible to compete as an individual, regardless of their skill level. Team members strengthen existing skills and learn new math concepts, learn to work with other members of the team and enjoy the comradery of traveling and competing with their teammates.
