Andrew Harper

My name is Andrew Haynes. I was born in Huntsville, AL, raised in Fayetteville, TN, and moved back to Huntsville after 9th grade. I have been here since. I love my city and can often be found enjoying the free events downtown and at Lowe Mill. My 9th grade Honors English teacher, Mrs. Gault, inspired me to become a teacher. She conveyed her passion for the material and care for us through building meaningful connections with her students. She was interesting and unique and always willing to engage in critical (if not occasionally off-task) conversation. I hope I can positively effect my students in a similar way she did for me. All students need a teacher that cares and is invested in them; someone that inspires learning.

I was on the Fayetteville Swim Team over 10 years growing up and I'm currently in my first year of coaching the Lee High Swim Team. It's a unique challenge that I am enjoying as I figure out how to be a good coach. Some of my other hobbies include hiking (I love Monte Sano Mountain and all the Madison County Land Trust trails), video and board games (to help stimulate the mind), and reading (I have to stay current on my favorite sci-fi and fantasies and what's current in best teaching practices). I look forward to a great first year at New Century!
