Blended Learning Plan & End of Year Procedures (April – May 2020)

New Century Technology High School will be following the Huntsville City Schools Blended Learning Plan.

Listed below are items specific to our school.

INSTRUCTION

PROCEDURES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Students are advised to follow their regular daily schedule as if they were in school.  This can help establish a routine and keep them on track in their schoolwork.
  • Canvas will be the primary means of communicating lessons and class expectations; however, additional resources such as Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom may be used as part of instruction.
  • All posted assignments will have a due date and should be turned in on or before the due date.
  • Students should contact the teacher if they need assistance accessing or completing any assigned work. All New Century teachers will have office hours between 9:00 a.m. and noon on school days.  This means that students and parents should be able to reach teachers by email or on Canvas during this time and receive a reply.  Keep in mind that teachers will be conducting lessons and helping other students so they may not be able to respond immediately.

  • Seniors who elect early completion of an Advanced Placement course are still eligible to participate in course review (ungraded) and take the AP exam if they so choose.

Read more about the AP Exam Schedule and how to prepare for the AP exam.

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT

  • WIFI is being provided on buses and on school grounds to allow students to download required material on their laptop or upload completed work for grading.  Students are not expected to sit in the parking lot or near the bus and complete the work.
  • Contact a school administrator if the student laptop is not operational and schedule a time to drop off the device. A replacement device will be made available for pickup as quickly as possible. Only non-operational devices should be reported and turned in at this time.
  • Contact the district help desk at 256-428-6900 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for all other technology issues.

SENIORS

  • Contact your counselor with any questions about completion of graduation requirements.

    • Students requesting a transcript to be sent to a college should complete the request on Naviance.  Be sure to indicate “send directly to institute” in Naviance unless it is marked CommonApp. Mrs. McGehee handles all transcript requests through Naviance. Email her with questions. If the school is not on Naviance, the student will have to register with CommonApp to request the transcript. Mrs. Manuel handles CommonApp transcript.

OTHER SCHOOL SERVICES

COMMUNICATION WITH SCHOOL PERSONNEL

  • School personnel have been told to only enter the building when necessary since cleaning is required whenever someone enters the building. Therefore, all faculty and staff are required to work from home.
  • Email is the best way to reach any school personnel. Email addresses are available on the school website.  Feel free to contact Ms. Roby or Mr. Sims if you need assistance and are not sure who to contact. The school phones will not be manned so please do not expect a response quickly if you leave a message at the school.
