DNA Model Competition

National DNA Day celebrates the completion of the Human Genome Project (HGP) in April 2003 and the discovery of the double helix of DNA in 1953. This year's DNA Day was on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. We celebrated this event by giving the students the opportunity to participate in our 1st DNA Model Competition! Thanks to the success of the event it will be held annually. The New Century Science Faculty hosted the competition. It was open to all New Century and Lee students. Most of the contestants consisted of New Century Biomedical students. The rules were stated as follows:

  • Bring your 3-D model to Room 163 by 3:00 p.m. Monday April 24th.
  • Models will be judged by Science Faculty and winners announced on DNA Day April 25th.
  • Models must be handmade (not purchased) and must accurately reflect the structure of DNA to be considered for prizes.

The models were judged on the participants’ accuracy and creativity. The winners received VISA gift cards as a prize for their masterpieces.

2nd place- Elise McClintock

2nd place- Shalimar Lacy

3rd place- Jaylah Alford
