Looking Forward 11/09/20

We are happy to welcome all traditional students back to in-person learning on Monday.  This week will be AB(holiday)AB , since Wednesday is Veteran’s Day.  All students are required to wear masks and practice social distancing to the greatest extent possible.

Desk Shields

We now have enough desk shields for each classroom.  Students are no longer required to carry their shields from class to class, but will use the shields provided in each classroom. Tech students will be provided a shield to take to their tech class until the other high schools have enough shields for each classroom. Desk shields, as well as desks, will be cleaned between classes.

Impact Aid Forms

The Huntsville City School System is entitled to certain federal monies if either mother, father or guardian of a student is employed on certain federal properties, is on active, full-time duty in the Uniformed Services, or if they live in a Federal Housing Project, or any combination of these requirements. To collect this money, Huntsville City Schools must be able to substantiate our claim with information requested on the Impact Aid Form. Please complete the form if any of these criteria apply to you and return the completed for to the school or the central office.  Feel free to email them to me and I will place them in the box. This money helps our school so please complete the form, if applicable.

2020-2021 NCTHS Yearbooks are officially on sale! We have some really cool designs going into this volume to honor this year's upside down, topsy-turvy world, so be sure to order your copy for $45 before prices go up on January 1! You're going to want to remember this year! Orders can be placed by ordering from the Balfour site.

Food Service

All students will receive free meals for the remainder of the school year.  Breakfast is served in two locations each morning as students enter the building, lunch is served in the classroom, and an afternoon snack can be picked up in the cafeteria as students leave in the afternoon.  Virtual students may pick up meals each day; however, the procedure changed beginning Monday, October 26th.  Phone orders must be called in between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. each day Monday through Friday.  Please call 256-428-8166 or 256-874-6148 to order curbside meals.  Once your order is placed, you may pick up meals on the south side of the school by the loading dock between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  When you arrive, please wait in your vehicle while a Child Nutrition Program staff member brings your school meals to you.

Parking Decal

Students drivers must complete a registration form and purchase a parking decal from Mr. Sims. Forms are available outside his office (room 213).

The PSAT will be administered again on January 26th.  You may register for the test by paying the $17 fee to Mrs. Hanvey in the main office or online through My School Fees.  If any accommodations are required, please email Ms. Roby. Students may only take the PSAT once during a school year.

Virtual Option for 2nd Semester

At the end of the first semester all students will automatically return to traditional learning status and will be expected to return to in-person learning. If you want your student(s) to remain virtual for the second semester, you must complete the Spring 2021 HVA registration online. Registration for virtual learning during second semester closes November 18th. Opting to remain virtual will not cause schedule changes for New Century students and will not alter their magnet status.

Students may exempt up to 2 exams per semester. An exam in a course may only be exempt once each school year. AP and IB courses are not included in the exemption plan for the first semester. Please contact your AP teacher or email Mr. Sims. if you have any questions about AP exams or require accommodations.

AP Parent Conferences

AP teachers are required to conduct conferences with parents of students who are taking their first advanced placement class.  Please watch for more information from teachers.  They must have a response from each parent so please respond even if you are not interested in participating in a conference.  These conferences are designed to acquaint parents with the expectations of AP classes and give some tips for supporting students as they work through the class.

Update from the School Nurse

Please remember to check your child each morning and please do not bring them to school if they have symptoms. For more information, please read Nurse Parsons' update.
