Looking Forward 1/4/20
Happy New Year and Welcome Back!!
School reopens January 4th. Students will follow a staggered schedule for the first week. Cohort 1 (last names A-K) will attend in-person instruction on Monday, January 4; Tuesday, January 5; Wednesday, January 6, 2021 and participate in remote learning on Thursday, January 7, and Friday, January 8, 2021. Cohort 2 (last names L - Z) will participate in remote learning on Monday, January 4, Tuesday, January 5 and Wednesday, January 6, 2021 and attend in-person instruction on Thursday, January 7; Friday, January 8, 2021.
Students who are attending in person for the first time this year are encouraged to bring a copy of their schedule or stop by the main office for a printed copy. Any adult in the building can help you find classrooms. Room numbers beginning with 1 are on the first floor, 2 are on the second floor, and 3 are on the first floor in the Fine Arts area (toward the theater).
The bell schedule is as follows:
- First period 8:30 - 10:05
- Second period 10:10 - 11:45
- Third period 11:50 - 2:00 (lunch during first 30 minutes)
- Fourth period 2:05 - 3:40
Traditional students are expected to attend school on their scheduled days or they will be marked absent. Please submit notes for all absences to Ms. Lightfoot. Absences due to COVID quarantine and COVID positive are marked using special attendance codes in INow so they do not count against the student.
Return to Blended Instruction
All programs should be operational in time for classes to resume tomorrow. A reimaged school laptop is required to access the school network. Personal laptops will not be allowed on the district network, but may be used at home. Contact Mrs. Clark (System Tech) if you have any questions or concerns regarding technology. You can also reach out to the district helpdesk for assistance at 256-428-6900.
Please be patient as we work to get everyone back up and running. Lessons will be posted on Schoology. Teachers will be transitioning to Microsoft Teams for virtual class meetings to provide increased security. Please contact your teacher if you have any questions about class lessons and assignments.
Student laptops must be reimaged following the cyber-attack on our district. If you have not yet turned in your laptop for reimaging, please do so immediately. Laptops may be dropped off at the school on Monday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Laptops that have been reimaged will be available for pickup on Monday, January 4th in the drive thru line from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and in the main lobby area (by the front office) from 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Traditional students in cohort 1 attending in-person on Monday may pick up their laptops in the theater lobby between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m.
Grades and Report Cards
Teachers are working to finalize grades for the second nine weeks. Final grades will be posted by the end of the week and report cards will be mailed home on January 8, 2021. Final grades may also be viewed in INow beginning Friday, January 8th. Please contact Ms. Mcgehee if you need assistance with your INow login.
Any 9th - 12th graders living in the Mae Jemison district are welcome to join the Mae Jemison Boys and Girls Tennis Team. Workouts and practices start Tuesday, January 5th from 4pm to 6:30pm.
