Makeup ACT Testing

On Tuesday, April 12th, the ACT with Writing will be administered to all Juniors who missed the original test date. Testing will take place in rooms 303-306 (downstairs on the fine arts hall).  Students participating in this testing are asked to be present in the testing area no later than 8:30 a.m.  All other students will be on a regular schedule in the building (with bells turned off throughout testing).

Jemison Basketball Tryouts

Mae Jemison High School Varsity and JV Girls Basketball tryouts will take place on May 16th from 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm.  Please bring a physical.  If you have questions, please contact Coach Sierra Jones.

Minority Pre-Law Conference

The Annual Minority Pre-Law Event was created to expose minority high school students to the practice of law, and we expect that local Judges and lawyers will volunteer their time to participate in the event this year.  The event will begin around 9am and ends around 2pm on April 14th.  If any Junior or Senior student is interested in attending, please let Ms. Roby know before 2:00 pm on Monday.

Senior Speakers for Graduation Speaking or Singing at Graduation

Graduation is just around the corner!  If you are a senior at NCTHS and are interested in speaking at graduation, please submit a speech to Mrs. Savage-Owens via Schoology or HCS email no later than April 15. Speeches should be approximately three minutes long and should reflect upon your positive experiences at NCHTS and/or your vision for the future and how NCTHS has prepared you for it. Two speeches will be selected for graduation. If you would like to sing the National Anthem at graduation, Mrs. Savage-Owens will conduct auditions during Zero Period on April 14 or after school by appointment. To be eligible to speak or sing at graduation, seniors must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Order Your Yearbook

Less than 20 copies of the 2021-2022 yearbook remain unpurchased. Pre-order now to reserve your copy by going to the Balfour website

Zero Period Changes

Beginning May 2nd, all students will report to Advisory during zero period.  This decision has been made based on the high traffic in our hallways during zero period on a regular basis.  The more structured time is designed to ensure students understand expectations and have dedicated time to meet all course requirements before the end of the school year. Clubs and activities need to wrap up their activities by the end of April to accommodate this change (unless they decide to meet outside school hours).  May is a full month with AP testing, exams, and graduation.  This scheduling change will provide students time to complete coursework and prepare for exams while also holding them accountable for meeting school expectations.  Attendance will be taken in zero period each day.

Attendance Note

COVID absences do not count against a student’s attendance. If a student is unable to attend class due to COVID concerns (such as exhibiting COVID symptoms or being excluded), please email Ms. Lightfoot to let her know so attendance can be marked appropriately.  All classwork will be posted in Schoology so students can keep up with their schoolwork. Please send all notes for absences and check-outs to Mrs. Lightfoot.
