Hudson Alpha Gene Chat

Celebrate DNA Day with HudsonAlpha and participate in GeneChat, our annual social media blitz, April 24, 2020, 9 am to 2 pm CDT. DNA Day commemorates the completion of the Human Genome Project in April 2003 and the discovery of the DNA double helix in 1953. Students can begin submitting questions Monday, April 13 to the HudsonAlpha GeneChat Flipgrid page.  DNA experts will answer your questions beginning at 9 am on April 24. We even developed a GeneChat Scavenger Hunt for students to dig through the resources highlighted on our grid topics to find the answers! Read more here.

Advanced Placement Exams

All students who have registered to take one or more advanced placement exams should have received an email from me yesterday.  We need to know if you plan to take the exam or not.  Please let me know if you did not receive the email or still have questions after reading the letter that was attached.  Methods of payment are included in the letter.

Early Completion for Seniors

Monday at 4:00 p.m. is the due date for all Senior Early Completion Forms.  I am still missing eleven forms so please don’t miss out on this opportunity.   The form must be submitted on time in order for the Senior to qualify for early completion.

Resource List

Ms. Hendon has started putting together an online resource list for students, parents, and teachers to use during this time. It will be updated with more links over the coming weeks. This week is focused more on how to access books and audiobooks at home for free. Follow the updates by bookmarking this site.

Students interested in earning college credit while in high school have this option through UA Early College. The next deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 8 by 4:45 pm: Information on how to apply.  Please direct any questions to the UA Early College staff at 205-348-7083.

PTSA

The New Century PTSA board wishes all the students, teachers and families safety and good health during these unusual times.  It is our highest priority that everyone remains healthy while continuing to finish out the school year.

The PTSA is required to complete the year by nominating, voting and implementing a new 2020/21 PTSA executive board. We currently have several board positions open which include hospitality and membership - if you are interested in serving on next years board please email Allison Kowalczyk. The New Century board is an excellent way to stay informed about the school and the district, while serving to bring excellent programs to the school.

Teacher Availability

All teachers will have office hours from 9:00 a.m. until noon each school day.  This means they will be accessible by email or through Canvas during this time.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers if you have questions.  Many teachers have said they will be available throughout the school day.  Teachers may set up online discussions to assist multiple students at one time.  All student issued laptops have the cameras disabled.

Main Office Hours

We are required to limit the number of people in each school building at this time.  Email is the best way to reach all of us.  We will do our best to address all your questions and concerns in a timely manner while keeping the health and well-being of our employees in mind.
