Looking Forward 5/11/20

Monday, May 11th  is a B day.

Michael Hyatt qualified for the 2020 Tournament of Champions in Extemporaneous Speaking at Northwestern University. Since the tournament had to be cancelled, he will automatically qualify for the 2021 EOTC.   Congratulations!!

Welcome to the final week of blended learning.  Friday, May 15th will be the last class day.  Students need to have all work turned in no later than May 15th.  There are no final exams in any classes.

Remember that all teachers have office hours from 9:00 a.m. until noon each school day.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers if you have questions.

This is optional!

On Tuesday, May 12 and Wednesday, May 13th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., students will have the opportunity to drop off any items that they are ready to return and pay any outstanding fees. We will have stations set up for each of the following:

  • Laptop turn-in for students who are not returning to New Century next year (Seniors and transfers only).  All other students are allowed to keep their laptop over the summer.
  • JROTC uniform turn-in
  • Book turn-in (textbooks, library and classroom books, study guides, …)
  • Senior checklist distribution (completed form required for cap and gown pickup)
  • Band uniform and instrument turn-in for students who are not returning to New Century next year (Seniors and transfers only).  All other band students are allowed to keep their instrument and uniform over the summer.
  • Fee payment (also available online through My School Fees). If you are paying with cash, please bring the exact amount. All checks should be made out to New Century Technology High School with the student name and what you are paying for stated on the memo line.
  • Medication pickup from school nurse

Please enter and exit through gate 4 (off Quietdale).  Stations will be set up in the drop-off line between the gym and theater. Please remain in your car and drive through the stations.  All items must be tagged with the student name to ensure you are properly credited with the return.

Lee High School will be collecting items in the front of the school so be sure to drive around to the side to find us.

This turn-in is optional.  Students who need to keep material to study for AP exams or complete coursework will have opportunities to turn things in later.

We are pleased to present the proposed slate of officers for the 2020-2021 New Century PTSA!!

  • Treasurer - Rebecca Phillips
  • Secretary - Beth Wilder
  • Programs - Laura Huckabee-Jennings
  • Membership - Lucia Cape
  • Hospitality - Cindy Fullerton

Please vote the new board in.  It is important to secure as many votes via survey due to our inability to hold our general meeting it only takes a few seconds to vote.

Thank you to all who served on the board this year - in particular to Renee Alford and Jill Schoener whose students are moving on to bigger adventures.

Good luck to students who begin AP testing this week.

Although many students have opted out of taking AP exams this year, the College Board is sending tickets to the AP exam for any students who registered previously.  If you have elected not to take the AP exam, just do not use the ticket provided.

The state provided new guidance regarding graduation ceremonies on Friday.  The district is still considering all the options available and we hope to have news for you soon. I will provide an update as soon as the plans are finalized.

  • The Balfour plant is considered a nonessential business and is currently closed.  We will provide an update as soon as they are able to reopen and provide an estimated date for our yearbooks to arrive.
  • Caps and gowns have not been delivered yet and we are working to set a date with Jostens.  We will set up a pickup date as soon as we can.  Watch for updates.
