Schedule for this week

Monday is an A day (ABABA week).

Please keep your student at home if he/she has been exposed to a person who tests positive for COVID or if he/she is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.  Symptoms include new cough, new loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever or chills, muscle or body aches, headaches, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, and fatigue. Absences due to COVID quarantine and COVID positive are marked using special attendance codes in INow so they do not count against the student.  The school nurse should be notified of any COVID-related absences.

Senior Scholarship Information

Scholarship offers are printed in the graduation program for all Seniors.  Since the graduation program must be delivered to the printer by Friday, May 21, please be sure to submit any scholarship information (including documentation of offer) to Mrs. Wolfe or Mrs. Manuel before Wednesday, May 19.

Desegregation Advisory Committee

Huntsville City Schools and the United States Department of Justice are seeking applications from students and parents/guardians to serve on the 2021-22 Desegregation Advisory Committee (DAC). The DAC consists of 10 parents/guardians and 6 high school students, one from each high school. Students serve a one-year term. Parents serve a two-year term. The DAC provides feedback to the Superintendent about Huntsville City Schools’ implementation of the Consent Order by collecting community comments and other information pertaining to Consent Order implementation. The DAC also informs the Court of Huntsville City Schools’ progress by completing a report for the Court. In addition, the DAC annually presents its findings to the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education.

Underclassmen Awards

Underclassmen who were not able to attend the Awards Day Ceremony for their grade may pick up their certificates in the main office during normal school hours.

From the Library

To all students, please return any textbooks you might have borrowed in previous years to Ms. Morrobel by the end of this year. There is no late fee or penalty, but we would like to have those books accounted for.

Exam Schedule

Students are expected to take their exams at the scheduled time. All students will have the option to take exams online or in person.  Talk to your teacher about the specifics for each course.

Senior Checklist and Exit Survey

Seniors please complete the HCS Senior Exit Survey in your Naviance account under the “About Me” tab, then “Surveys”, then “Surveys not completed”.  If needed, a paper copy has been attached to this newsletter.  The attached Senior checklist is also required for cap and gown pickup.  Be sure to get all items checked off. Seniors will be able to get the checklist completed when they come for cap and gown pickup, but they need to be aware of all the required items so they come prepared.

Graduation

New Century’s graduation will take place on Thursday, May 27th at 1:00 pm at the Von Braun Center Arena.  Each graduating Senior will receive ten tickets for family and friends to attend the graduation ceremony.  The tickets will be distributed during cap and gown pickup on May 21st.    We will follow all safety precautions in place at the VBC at that time.

Laptop Turn-In

All student laptops must be turned in after all exams have been taken (and no later than May 28th). A drive-through laptop drop-off will be available on May 28th near the theater entrance. Mrs. Clark will be taking up laptops in the building prior to May 28th. Be sure to turn in the laptop, charger, and bag to avoid a lost item fee.
