Looking Forward 5/4/20

Monday, May 4th  is an A day.

Friday, May 15th will be the last class day.  Students need to have all work turned in no later than May 15th.  Remember that all teachers have office hours from 9:00 a.m. until noon each school day.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers if you have questions.

School fees may be paid online through My School Fees or paid in person at school on Monday 9-12 or Tuesday 9-12.  All questions about fees should be directed to Mrs. Hanvey.

The district is still considering all the options available to us for graduation.  I will provide an update as soon as information is available.

Huntsville City Schools is very pleased to share information regarding the Summer Reading Program, a district-wide effort to encourage reading for enjoyment.  Reading during the summer months is an important opportunity for students to stay engaged and to develop a life-long commitment to reading and learning.

The Summer Reading program information is posted on the HCS webpage for students and parents and can be found by following these directions:

  • Hover over “Academics” tab
  • Go to “Curriculum” section
  • Click “Summer Reading 2020 for Grades 6-12” link

AP/Dual Enrollment Course Options for 2020-2021

To learn more about the AP/Dual Enrollment program, attend the AP/Dual Enrollment Credit Assurance Parent Interest Meeting via Zoom on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 5 pm. Please email Tyra Pickens for the Zoom meeting ID link and password. AP, dual enrollment, and blended classes in US History, World History, Biology, and English Language may be available at New Century next year depending on the number of interested students.  Students must get superintendent approval to take more than one dual enrollment core class during a school year.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Manuel.

Ms. Hendon has put together an online resource list for students, parents, and teachers to use during this time. Browse the New Century Online Resource List or learn how to use the AVL.

The New Century PTSA board wishes all the students, teachers and families safety and good health during these unusual times.  It is our highest priority that everyone remains healthy while continuing to finish out the school year.

The PTSA is required to complete the year by nominating, voting and implementing a new 2020/21 PTSA executive board. We currently have several board positions open which include hospitality and membership - if you are interested in serving on next year’s board please email Allison Kowalczyk. The New Century board is an excellent way to stay informed about the school and the district, while serving to bring excellent programs to the school.

At this time, schools are not allowed to collect materials including laptops and textbooks from students.  As soon as the Stay at Home order is relaxed, we will notify you of how items can be returned to the school.  Thank you for your patience.

We are required to limit the number of people in each school building at this time.  Email is the best way to reach all of us.  We will do our best to address all your questions and concerns in a timely manner while keeping the health and well-being of our employees in mind.

The Balfour plant is considered a nonessential business and is currently closed.  We will provide an update as soon as they are able to reopen and provide an estimated date for our yearbooks to arrive.
