Many thanks to the New Century PTSA for a wonderful student celebration on Friday!  We are happy to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of all of our students and look forward to a strong finish for this school year.  Special thanks to the parents who volunteered at the event and the PTSA Board for making it happen.

Gentle Reminders

Students are not allowed to order food to be delivered to the school or have someone bring outside food to them during the school day.  State law requires no competition with the school lunch program and we appreciate your adherence to this requirement.

Any time a student leaves campus during school hours, he/she must check out in the main office with Mrs. Lightfoot. If a parent emails Mrs. Lightfoot, please include a phone number so she can call to verify. 

Students are not allowed to bring toy guns of any sort on campus.  This includes water guns, pellet guns, paint ball guns, … 


Yearbooks will be distributed during Advisory on Monday for pre-orders. Students who are not present on Monday should check with Ms. Carter to pick theirs up on Tuesday during Advisory. Students who did not pre-order a book can purchase one of the few extras for $55 (cash or check) from Ms. Hanvey in the front office beginning on Wednesday. They will be first come, first serve.

AP Students

Advanced Placement Testing continues this week.    All testing will take place in the band room (room 332), and you should report to testing between 8:00 - 8:15.

What to bring to the testing room:

  • two sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers
  • a pen with black or dark blue ink only
  • a valid photo ID

What NOT to bring in the testing room:

  • electronic equipment of any kind
  • highlighters, mechanical or colored pencils
  • scratch paper
  • calculators (unless your exam requires one)
  • watches that beep or have an alarm or smart watches
  • food and drink
  • ear plugs

Please be sure to get plenty of rest before the test, dress comfortably and eat a good breakfast.  Again, food and drink is not permitted inside the testing room and all cell phones and electronics are strictly prohibited.  Food and drink is permitted on break after Section 1 of your exam, but any snacks you bring must remain outside the testing room.  If you have any questions please email Ms. Manuel.

ACCESS Course Work Cutoff

All work on ACCESS courses must be complete by 5/19/2022 for Seniors and 5/25/2022 for underclassmen.  Students must be at least 30% complete in a course by May 11th to potentially earn credit in the course. 

Work-Based Learning Required Parent Meeting

Any student interested in participating in work-based learning (also known as co-op) for the 2022-2023 school year, must attend a meeting with their parent to be eligible to participate in the program.  The final meeting for this year will take place on Wednesday, May 11 from 5:30pm-6:30pm at Chapman Middle School Cafeteria. If the student and parent does not attend the meeting, the student will be removed from the Work-Based Learning program.

Dual Enrollment Paperwork

All dual enrollment paperwork for the summer and fall will be due to Mrs. Manuel by May 11th. 

Summer Opportunities

  • Summer School will be at Lee High School from Monday, June 6, 2022 through Friday July 1, 2022. There is a one-time registration fee of $50.00 and a fee of $200 per course. Parents/guardians will be responsible for transporting their student to and from the summer school site.  All courses will be virtual except Driver’s Education 
  • Summer Learning Academy for students in grades 9-12 will be available Monday-Thursday weekly from Monday, June 6, 2022- Thursday, June 30, 2022. Meals will be provided. There is no cost for students to attend.  Transportation will be offered to high school students.  Registration is available online and will be open May 16-May 27, 2022 with a late registration May 31, 2022-June 2, 2022.
  • Honors Enrichment Camp: Rising 6th - 12th grade students enrolled in Honors or Advanced Placement classes for the next 22-23 school year are invited to participate in the Honors Enrichment Camp from July 11th - July 15th. The camp will take place at the Huntsville HS Freshman Academy, and transportation is provided for those who request it. Register online by 5/26/22.

Jemison Basketball Tryouts

Mae Jemison High School Varsity and JV Girls Basketball tryouts will take place on May 16th from 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm.  Please bring a physical.  If you have questions, please contact Coach Sierra Jones.

Columbia Softball Tryouts

Columbia High School Softball Tryouts will take place May 10th – 12th from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm each day.  Students must attend all three days to participate, have a 2.5 GPA or above for the current school year, an active DragonFly account, and an updated physical form uploaded to DragonFly.
