Looking Forward 8/24/20

Hooray for surviving the first week of school!  Even with technology issues, scheduling quandaries, and dysfunctional laptop cameras, we managed to make connections, learn a little, and start getting back in the swing of things.

Student Schedules

Schedules should be close to complete.  The only changes that will be made moving forward are to adjust overcrowded classrooms, fill holes, or add required classes.  Thank you for your patience.

Parent Access Code for Schoology

A1 teachers were asked to provide Schoology access codes to parents by last Friday.  You should have received it by email or it might have been sent to your student to pass along to you.  If you have any questions about Schoology access codes, please contact your student’s A1 teacher.

Classes Requiring In-Person Attendance

There are three classes that require in-person attendance for all enrolled students (both virtual and traditional).  These classes are:

  • Biotechnology Internship (during semester assigned to HudsonAlpha)
  • Health Science Internship (once schools reopen for students), and
  • Therapeutic Services (once schools reopen for students).

If you have questions about specific requirements for a class, please contact the teacher.  If a student is not able to meet this in-person requirement, he/she should contact me to request a schedule change immediately.

Internet Access

Governor Ivey has approved a new program called Alabama Broadband Connectivity (ABC) for students. This program will provide vouchers for families of students currently eligible for free and reduced price school meals or other income based criteria. The vouchers will help cover equipment and service costs for high-speed internet service from the fall through December 31, 2020. To view guidelines and see if you qualify, visit the abc site.

If you do not have reliable internet access available, please let your teachers know so we can develop a plan to ensure your student is able to get all lessons and assignments in a timely manner.

Yearbook Request

The NCTHS Yearbook Staff needs your help! This year's book is going to require help from our community since we are currently not able to photograph students at school. As a result, we'd love to have you submit photos periodically throughout the year (during the virtual learning phase, especially) based on chosen themes. This week's theme is "Back to School!" Use the Back-to-School form to submit your best 1st day of school photos. Contact Ms. Carter for specific questions. Thank you in advance!

Requesting Books

If you are interested in requesting textbooks or library books during our remote learning period, please complete the Books Request form created and managed our school librarian.
