Looking Forward 8/31/20

School Reopening

As you have heard, high schools will be reopening for students on a staggered schedule beginning September 21st.  Students who registered for HVA will remain virtual through December. Traditional students will return to class on a staggered schedule based on assigned cohorts which are being developed based on the first letter of a student’s last name.  The A/B calendar will have to be modified to accommodate this schedule.  Although students will be in the building at most three days per week, the learning will continue five days a week.  When students are not in the building, they are expected to continue making progress with the class by participating remotely during the other days.   A revised calendar, cohort information, and more details on the reopening will be provided to families by September 4th.  Masks will be required at least through October 2nd per the Governor’s Safer at Home order.  We look forward to opening our doors to students.

The PSAT will be administered at school in October.  This test is open to 10th and 11th graders.  As soon as the date is finalized, we will distribute information for students to register.  The cost of the PSAT is $17 and must be paid when you register.

Internet Access

Governor Ivey has approved a new program called Alabama Broadband Connectivity (ABC) for students. This program will provide vouchers for families of students currently eligible for free and reduced price school meals or other income based criteria. The vouchers will help cover equipment and service costs for high-speed internet service from the fall through December 31, 2020. To view guidelines and see if you qualify, visit the abc site.

If you do not have reliable internet access available, please let your teachers know so we can develop a plan to ensure your student is able to get all lessons and assignments in a timely manner.
