Teacher Spotlight: Lori Rhonemus
Congratulations to Lori Rhonemus of Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary School, selected as this week’s Teacher Spotlight!
Ms. Rhonemus was born in California and spent many years living in Ohio. In 2008, she relocated to the Huntsville area with her husband and two daughters when her husband, Mark, retired from the military. The Air Force took them to New Mexico, North Dakota, Maryland, California, and Montana. Though they enjoyed the best of all the places they've lived, they settled on Alabama to call home. Their oldest daughter attended Auburn University, making the family staunch 'War Eagle' fans. She has taught second through fourth grades as well as preschool, kindergarten, upper-elementary gifted & talented, and continuing education for educators. She currently teaches fifth grade reading.
"I get to learn something new every day, and I don't know of many other professions that get to do that," says Ms. Rhonemus. She says she enjoys working with students and looks forward to coming in to work every day. According to one of her students, Owenn Skulski, "she makes sure that you know what you're reading, and makes sure that you enjoy reading it." Ms. Rhonemus really strives to forge connections with her students, and says "I can teach them content, I can teach them all the standards, but helping them be the best people that they can be is probably the greatest thing that I can do." Ms. Rhonemus excels at using her previous experience, collaborating with the fifth grade team, and teaming with parents to ensure that all of her students are successful. Perhaps Emma Grace Maher, another of Ms. Rhonemus' students, says it best - "she's just amazing."
