Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Danielle Young

Congratulations to Ms. Danielle Young of Blossomwood Elementary, selected as this week’s Teacher Spotlight recipient!

Ms. Young always knew she wanted to do something with kids, but she wasn’t sure exactly what that was until she worked part time at a child development center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  A childhood product of Huntsville City Schools, she attributes a lot of her inspiration to Dr. Scott.  Despite it being his first year as a teacher, she says that he “showed so much care and love to the students” and became a model of how she wanted to be as she grew up.  After a lot of prayer, she says she felt that God put her in the right place to become a teacher – it was truly a calling.

Ms. Young’s husband is a social worker for Wellstone Behavioral Health and they have four children together, three of whom are students at Blossomwood.  When she isn’t teaching, she enjoys travelling to Pigeon Forge and Chattanooga with her family.  She’s also begun to get into baking, because her kids enjoy making cupcakes.

“She is loved by her students, the parents love and appreciate her, [and] she is definitely loved and appreciated by her colleagues as well,” says Blossomwood Principal Jamie Burton.  Ms. Young is the team leader for her grade level and is also the lead for the Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) team.  Ms. Young builds close relationships with her students in the quest to instill a love of learning in them.  Jordyn Edwards says, “When we need help, she always helps us.  I think she’s the best teacher ever.”  In her classroom, she likes to give students choices about how they complete assignments or engage in activities.  According to her, this makes it more likely that students will truly engage in the material.  Most of all, she tries to instill a feeling of family in the classroom.

According to Mr. Burton, “I know that I speak on behalf of our entire faculty.  We are definitely a better school because we have Ms. Young.”  It’s clear that Ms. Young has an enormously positive impact on the students and faculty at Blossomwood.

Each week, ETV will showcase an outstanding Huntsville City Schools educator as a feature in the “Teacher Spotlight." Highlighted recipients receive gifts from SchoolCraft.
