Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Stacy Lang
Congratulations to Ms. Stacy Lang of the Academy for Academics and Arts, selected as this week’s Teacher Spotlight recipient!
Ms. Lang has been teaching for over twenty-four years in Huntsville City Schools, with eighteen of those in first grade where she currently teaches reading. She earned her degree at the University of Alabama, and can be heard saying “Roll Tide” from time to time. She likes to spend her free time watching classic movies, seeing shows, walking, and spending as much time with her daughter as possible. Luckily, her daughter is also a student at AAA. Ms. Lang is also an avid animal lover, and she has an assortment of fish, rabbits, dogs, and guinea pigs. She says that all of her animals are a great stress reliever.
“Stacy Lang is an amazing reading teacher,” says Academy for Academics and Arts Principal Amy VanAllen, “she gets those kids at the small group reading table, and it just makes miracles happen.” Ms. Lang also builds great rapport with her students, often getting down on the floor with them to help them with an assignment or activity. Georgia Miller, one of Ms. Lang’s first grade students, says “my favorite part about her, is we always have fun.” Ms. Lang says she likes to get the kids in groups a lot, so they can take the relationship they have with her and, “spread it out across the classroom.” At the end of the day, the students spend time reflecting on what they learned and resolve any issues before they go home.
It’s hard not to agree with Lexie Gordon, another of Ms. Lang’s students, who says “she’s a good teacher, and she’s nice.”
