A Soldier's Homecoming Surprise
Michael Maples, a first-grade student at Williams Elementary had no idea of the surprise that was in store for him as he performed at the school’s holiday concert Tuesday night held at Columbia High’s auditorium. His dad, Chief Warrant Officer Scott Maples, has been on deployment in Kuwait for the past 6 months and would get two weeks off to come home. Last night Maples got off a plane, traveled directly to the concert and managed to slip into a large wrapped Christmas present. Michael was called to the stage and told he had a special gift and immediately started to tear open the mystery package. With his hands on his face, a few tears of joy, and cheers from the audience, Michael jumped up to give his dad a big hug. Scott Maples is a native of Madison County and has proudly served his country for the past twenty-two years.
