New Century Magnet Application Information

Steps to Apply for New Century

  1. Apply online during the application window and save your application confirmation page. Applicants for rising grades 9th through 12th grade will wait for their "Next Steps" email.

  2. Receive "Next Steps" email with online writing sample days and times.

  3. Visit our campus on one of the days for the online writing sample.

Now that you have received your Next Steps email, you are ready to prepare for an online writing sample as part of your application to New Century.

Online Writing Sample Dates and Times

Next Steps dates will be specified in an email received from Magnet Office and/or the Magnet Coordinator after the application window closes.

When You Arrive:

  1. You may come to New Century on [TBA]. You do not have to call ahead nor make an appointment. If your student is a current Huntsville City Schools student, they will need to bring a charged laptop with them for the online writing sample. Online writing samples generally take 20 to 40 minutes to complete. We allow no more than an hour. If a student arrives late, they simply have less time with which to work. Make sure to arrive at the specified time.

  2. Applicants will read four prompts to which they will respond. Each applicant needs to be prepared to answer the four questions listed with our Online Writing Sample Rubric.

  3. Once the four prompts are answered by the applicant, he or she will submit the online writing sample. After submitting the online writing sample, the applicant is free to leave.
