We are proud to announce that Mrs. Jessica Gittman is our ASFL Elementary Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Gittman (formerly Kane) is one of the collaborative special education teachers, serving students in 2nd-4th grade. She is in her 2nd year at ASFL, having previously taught at Providence Elementary and Chapman Elementary. Her experience spans supporting students across the autism spectrum, as well as those with behavioral, specific learning, and attention-related needs. Mrs. Gittman says, "I have always enjoyed working with children and felt a strong calling to teach students with special needs. I am committed to making learning accessible by breaking abstract concepts into meaningful, achievable learning targets." She also says that the most rewarding parts of her role is building positive relationships with students, their families, and her colleagues while supporting students as they work towards achieving their goals.
Mrs. Gittman will go on to compete for District Teacher of the Year. If she wins that, she will go on to compete for Alabama Teacher of the Year. Congratulations, Mrs. Gittman! We are so happy you are part of our ASFL family. Thank you for everything you do for our students and school!
