Greetings Chaffee Families,

February is Black History Month, with fun learning activities planned throughout the month. On Friday our students were treated to a special program written by Ms. Loeb and put on by Ms. Green and the Black History Month Committee. It was an amazing program with our very own students participating. We’re looking forward to the Black History Month Wax Museum put on by our 4th graders this week!

Read Across America Week kicks off next week! We have fun and simple dress up days planned for the week. We try to keep our themed days simple so that everyone can participate and not feel overwhelmed.

Spring ACAP Testing is right around the corner--see the testing schedule below. Please make sure students arrive to school on time, eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school, and have a charged laptop. Please encourage your child to do his/her best. Every test is practice for the next test!

Our PTA spring fundraiser, Buddy a Thon, is in its last week! So far we have raised over $11,000! We have met our $10k incentive and now we’re trying to raise $15k for the next school-wide incentive!

Registration for the 2026-27 school year is open! An email with directions has been sent from the district to the primary email address on file for each student. Please complete registration as soon as possible so that we can plan for next year. Please encourage your friends to register as soon as possible. You can reach out to Ms. Cothren or Ms. Carter with any questions.

ATTENDANCE…it is so important for our students to be at school daily unless excluded for medical reasons. Once a student misses more than 17 school days, (s)he is considered chronically absent, which counts against our school on our state report card grade. Missing 18 days of school a year is roughly two days a month. There is so much learning going on every day, our students can not afford to miss two days of school a month. We do have Truancy practices in place that I must follow to address unexcused absences and chronic absenteeism. If your family has a special circumstance, please reach out to me so that we can make a plan to support your student. Last year we had 17 students who were chronically absent. We want to cut that number in half this year! We know sickness hit our school hard in January and early February, but we hope everyone stays healthy for the remainder of the year!

You can still purchase your child's yearbook online. We only have about 10 yearbooks left to sell!

April Clark
