Greetings Chaffee Families,

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend. There are so many great things happening at Chaffee—I hope you have had the chance to get involved this year. Just this past month we threw Valentine’s Day parties, put on a fantastic Black History Month program, our 4th graders became historical figures for our Wax Museum, our 1st graders continued to grow their reading links, our students became Number Ninjas, and we had an amazing PBIS Glow Party! If you have not yet volunteered to help with a school event, I encourage you to do so. We want every parent, guardian, and grandparent to get involved to help our school be the best it can be. You each bring a special quality that would benefit our students!

It’s Read Across America Week! We have fun and simple dress up days planned for the week. We try to keep our themed days simple so that everyone can participate and not feel overwhelmed. We have over 20 guest readers coming to Chaffee this week to read to our students! It’s going to be so much fun!

K for a Day will be held Friday, April 17! This is an event for students entering Kindergarten next year and their parents. We can’t wait to meet our new students on this day! Please help spread the word to your neighbors.

Spring ACAP Testing is right around the corner--see the testing schedule below. Please make sure students arrive to school on time, eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school, and have a charged laptop. Please encourage your child to do his/her best. Every test is practice for the next test!

Our PTA spring fundraiser, Buddy a Thon, ended last week! We raised $15,000! Thank you for your support!

Registration for the 2026-27 school year is open! An email with directions has been sent from the district to the primary email address on file for each student. Please complete registration as soon as possible so that we can plan for next year. Please encourage your friends to register as soon as possible. You can reach out to Ms. Cothren or Ms. Carter with any questions.

ATTENDANCE…it is so important for our students to be at school daily unless excluded for medical reasons. Once a student misses more than 17 school days, (s)he is considered chronically absent, which counts against our school on our state report card grade. Missing 18 days of school a year is roughly two days a month. There is so much learning going on every day, our students can not afford to miss two days of school a month. We do have Truancy practices in place that I must follow to address unexcused absences and chronic absenteeism. If your family has a special circumstance, please reach out to me so that we can make a plan to support your student. Last year we had 17 students who were chronically absent. We want to cut that number in half this year! We know sickness hit our school hard in January and early February, but we hope everyone stays healthy for the remainder of the year!

You can still purchase your child's yearbook online. We only have about 10 yearbooks left to sell!

Soar Eagles,

April Clark
