Students in Ms. Moncur’s Design and Modeling class recently embarked on an exciting entrepreneurial journey, stepping out of the textbook and into the role of professional innovators. The class partnered with "clients" within the school—Art teacher Ms. Hampton and Library Media Specialist Mrs. Ciccolella—to design custom solutions that would enhance their spaces and improve daily organization. Ms. Hampton challenged the students to create an all-in-one device for cleaning, drying, and storing paintbrushes to make supplies more accessible for student artists. Meanwhile, Mrs. Ciccolella presented a need for tabletop organizers for chargers and cords, as well as new book holders for the library shelves.
The students rose to the occasion, treating the assignment with professional seriousness. They took the time to interview their clients, carefully listening to their needs to ensure their prototypes met specific parameters. The results were outstanding; the students not only met the requirements but exceeded expectations with thoughtful, functional designs. Through this collaboration, the class gained more than just technical knowledge of the design process—they developed critical entrepreneurial skills, learning how to listen, adapt, and create value for others.
