The Habitat Lab is organized into outdoor learning stations that provide the habitat (food, water, shelter, and places to raise young) that wildlife needs to survive, and it includes stations developed around specific ecological topics such as agriculture, decomposition & weather. Our students will adopt stations by grade level. Besides annual gardens that the students will be able to plant,
Kindergarten will adopt the Sensory Station
1st grade will adopt the Butterfly Garden
2nd has the Pollinator Garden and Strawberry Station
3rd the Frog/Toad and Log Decomposition stations
4th the Songbird and Bulb Habitat
5th is the Box Turtle Habitat and Weather Station.
Educators use the Habitat Lab as an outdoor classroom and living laboratory to teach the Alabama Department of Education’s Standards for science, math, reading, and language arts. The students collect their observations and data as they participate in engaging, inquiry-based activities.
