Goldsmith-Schiffman Elementary

This week in 3rd Grade Math, I had the pleasure of working alongside Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Goodwyn during our coaching cycle as we explored AREA! Students learned what area means and how to measure it using both nonstandard and standard units of measurement. Through hands-on activities, exploration, and meaningful math discussions, students practiced covering surfaces, counting square units, and making connections between the two ways of measuring area. We also incorporated Number Talks to strengthen number sense, encourage mental math strategies, and give students opportunities to share and explain their mathematical thinking. From building an understanding of area to exercising our math brains, we had a week full of meaningful math learning!
