Absences Add Up!

• Chronic absenteeism is a primary cause of low academic achievement.




• Missing 10% of school for ANY reason, excused or unexcused, is proven to negatively impact future graduation rates.




• Elementary & Middle Schools: 15% of the school report card is derived from the chronic absenteeism rate




• High Schools: 10% of the school report card is derived from the chronic absenteeism rate

It's Never Too Late to Improve Attendance

• Research shows that when students are chronically absent (18 or more days), they are less likely to read proficiently by 3rd grade.

What Families Can Do

• Set a regular bedtime and morning routine




• Prepare for school the night before




• Develop back up plans for getting to and from school




• Keep track of your student's attendance




• Talk to your student about the importance of attending school




• Talk to your student's teacher if you notice sudden changes in behavior
