HUNTSVILLE, AL – Huntsville High School Student Council – For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that improve the school and community—such as ratifying new governing documents, advancing the school’s prestige using knowledge gained through educational experiences, and establishing a significant presence within the Huntsville High School community—the Huntsville High School Student Council has been recognized as a 2026 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC). The NASC program is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the leading organization for promoting leadership and developing strong school systems.

The NASC National Council of Excellence designation is awarded to student councils demonstrating an outstanding commitment to fostering a positive school culture, promoting active student involvement in school governance, developing student leadership skills, and giving back to the community. Huntsville High School’s Student Council underwent a comprehensive application process, diligently showcasing exemplary initiatives such as donating to local healthcare, instituting many initiatives that boost school spirit (including Panther Week and Homecoming Week), seeking out leadership development opportunities, and promoting high aspirations among all students. Furthermore, the council's implementation of an effective organizational structure, featuring established branches and a clear definition of powers as found in its recently ratified constitution, has significantly impacted Huntsville High and contributed to this prestigious achievement. Student Council President, Tripp Raleigh, says, “As a high school student council, we are always trying to grow and support our student body as well as our community. This award means a great deal because it shows the growth that we have been able to make over the last few years. We also want to thank all the members of our school, community, and administration who have supported us and made this possible. We reaffirm our commitment to serve our school community.”

“The student council at Huntsville High School just pulled off something extraordinary,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “Their student-driven change has earned them national recognition as a National Gold Council of Excellence, proving that when young people are given the chance to lead, they turn their vision into real-world impact.” Student Council Sponsor, Hannah Wylie, says of HHS Student Council, “I am extremely impressed with these students and their ability to respond to the immense task placed before them to be recognized with this award. These students have displayed quality leadership and organization skills to not only achieve this honor, but to serve and provide a comforting environment to their peers. Their goal started with wanting to be the best student council in the state, and now they continue their aspirations to be the best in the country.”
