HUNTSVILLE — Lee High School senior Erin Duus continues to impress audiences and educators alike as a “triple threat” in the performing arts. A member of Lee’s nationally recognized Arts Magnet program, Duus has distinguished herself as an accomplished singer, dancer, and actor while also excelling academically.

Duus has performed leading roles in several major productions, including The Little Mermaid as Ariel, The Addams Family as Wednesday Addams, and Matilda the Musical as Miss Honey. Her versatility extends across genres, from musical theater to dramatic performance, with additional credits in Into the Woods Jr., The Wiz, and The Divine Kerfuffle.

Dance Magnet teacher Nicole Hunkapillar described Duus as one of the program’s standouts. “I have a lot of talented seniors,” Hunkapillar said. “She is one of the standouts. If you ask her to do it and she can’t, she’ll figure out how.”

Beyond her work on stage, Duus has contributed as a choreographer, dance captain, and student leader within the Lee High Dance Magnet. She has trained extensively through master classes and national pre-college programs, including Broadway Evolved, ArtsBridge MT2 at Baldwin Wallace University, and the Norwalk Conservatory Pre-College Program in Connecticut.

Academically, Duus ranks among the top of her class and earned a score of 5 on the AP Environmental Science exam. Teachers describe her as driven, kind, and professional — a student who brings the same discipline to her studies that she does to her performances.

“Erin is one of the most dedicated and well-rounded students I have ever taught,” said Kevin McDonald, Science Teacher at Lee High School. “She is intelligent, talented, and compassionate — the kind of student who makes everyone around her better.”

After graduation, Duus plans to continue her education and pursue a degree in performing arts, with hopes of expanding her professional work in musical theater.

“Erin’s work ethic and artistry are remarkable,” McDonald added. “She will undoubtedly succeed in whatever opportunities come her way.”
