Lee High School is celebrating an exciting milestone on this year’s Alabama State Report Card. The school’s overall score rose from a 78 to an 83, a five-point jump that officially moves Lee into the “B” category. This achievement reflects powerful growth across the campus and highlights the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teachers and staff, and the strong support of our families and community.
The data behind the score tells an even more encouraging story. Lee High posted gains in every major indicator: academic achievement, academic growth, graduation rate, non-chronic absenteeism, and college and career readiness. Each area improved steadily over the past year, contributing to one of the most significant increases the school has seen in recent years.
Principal Kitrise Torain shared her pride in the school’s momentum and the collective effort behind it. “This five-point growth is a testament to the belief our students have in themselves and the commitment our teachers show every day,” Torain said. “We are thrilled about this progress and even more energized to continue our work. Our goal is to become an ‘A’ school, and we are relentlessly moving in that direction.”
This progress is the result of purposeful, schoolwide strategies. Teachers incorporated daily ACT preparation, used mock ACT data to guide instruction, strengthened vocabulary and writing skills across all subjects, and expanded opportunities through dual enrollment. Professional development and an emphasis on strong attendance helped reinforce consistent learning and academic stamina.
Families and guardians also played a major role by monitoring student progress in PowerSchool, supporting nightly homework routines, encouraging ACT participation, and helping set goals for academic success.
The FamiLEE community is celebrating this accomplishment, and excitement is already building for what comes next. With momentum on their side and a clear vision for continued growth, Lee High School is proving that great things are happening — and even greater things are ahead.
