Lee High School students can apply now to join the LHS Green Ambassadors, a student organization focused on hands-on sustainability projects that improve the school campus and connect students with environmental work in Huntsville, AL.
Last year, Lee High School earned first place in the high school sustainability campus category through the City of Huntsville’s Green Ambassadors program. Club sponsor Mr. McDonald was also named the City of Huntsville Green Ambassador Teacher of the Year. This year, students will build on that success through projects focused on native plantings and campus design, development of a native Alabama grassland research tract and efforts to make Lee High School a more bird-friendly campus.
Green Ambassadors will also work with the Land Trust of North Alabama to learn how to test and evaluate water quality. These experiences are designed to give students practical exposure to environmental science, conservation, field research and community-based sustainability work.
Students in grades 9-12 may apply. Applicants should have a C average or better, good attendance and positive behavior. Members should be prepared to work outdoors, participate actively and contribute to projects throughout the school year.
