Our 4th graders had an exciting hands-on learning experience during our field trip to Huntsville Utilities Operations! Students explored how electricity, water, and natural gas are produced, distributed, and managed throughout our city. They saw real-world examples of how engineers and technicians work together to keep Huntsville running safely and efficiently.
This visit connects directly to our Alabama 4th Grade Science Standards, including:
SC.4.10 – Investigate how energy is transferred and transformed.
SC.4.11 – Describe how electrical circuits are used to transfer energy.
SC.4.12 – Explain how humans use natural resources to produce energy.
By seeing these systems in action, students deepened their understanding of how energy moves from source to socket — and how science, technology, and teamwork power our community every day.
