Four 6th grade students experimenting with seismographs

Sixth grade science students made seismic waves—literally—when learning how to use a seismograph and record a seismogram! They discovered firsthand how scientists measure and study the shaking of the Earth. By experimenting with different levels of force, direction, and distance, students explored how these factors influenced the seismograph’s readings. This engaging activity gave students a deeper appreciation for how earthquakes are studied and recorded in the real world.
