MGMS administrative team poses for a picture decked out in their House spirit wear

Mountain Gap Middle School students got the chance to celebrate their Grizzly pride at the end of the first week of school with our highly anticipated House Sorting!

Here at the Gap, every student belongs to one of four houses: Audax (Red), Laboriosi (Yellow), Paratus (Green), or Studiose (Blue). Our House system builds strong connections across grade levels, creates a fun and competitive learning environment, and instills lasting school spirit in both students and staff.

Our newest Grizzlies—including incoming 6th graders and students new to Mountain Gap—ran a high-energy obstacle course before finding out their house assignment. Once sorted, they were welcomed with wild cheers from throngs of excited returning students and staff decked out head-to-toe in their house colors.

"The sorting ceremony is an event our students look forward to every year," said Principal Heather Bardwell.

Grizzly spirit radiated through the packed gymnasium as we kicked off what promises to be an amazing 2026–2027 school year. The administrative team has plenty more house competitions and events planned, so stay tuned to see which House takes the lead this year!
