Mountain Gap Middle School

Sixth grade scientists have been busy studying earthquakes over the past few weeks! They began by designing earthquake-resistant buildings and putting them to the shake test to investigate the different magnitudes of earthquakes. Then, they used both water drops and springs to investigate how energy waves from earthquakes travel through Earth's interior. Finally, they used a seismograph to investigate P and S waves and how direction, distance, and force of earthquakes can change them. Students have learned to collect, organize, and analyze data and to think about strategies engineers could use to minimize damage. Talk about an intense unit!
