Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School

During common planning, Mrs. Burrell met with 2nd grade teachers to look over recent math assessments. The team noticed that while students are showing strengths in some areas, many need extra support with number sense and problem-solving. Teachers worked together to plan different strategies that can help all students, including small groups for those who need more practice. Mrs. Burrell encouraged the use of hands-on tools, like math manipulatives and visual models, to make math concepts easier to understand. Teachers also talked about grouping students in flexible ways so everyone can learn at their own pace. Moving forward, they will continue creating small-group lessons and checking progress each week. This teamwork helps ensure students get the support they need to grow in math.
