Some students in 2nd grade working in math books

Students in Grandison’s 2nd grade class were actively engaged in using math manipulatives to practice addition and subtraction. They worked with tools such as counters to build a concrete understanding of math concepts. The hands-on approach allowed students to visualize the process of regrouping and solving problems step by step. Many students showed increased confidence as they manipulated objects to represent equations before moving to abstract strategies. This interactive practice not only supported struggling learners but also challenged others to explain their reasoning. By using manipulatives, the class strengthened both their accuracy and conceptual understanding in math.
