Montview hosted a beautiful and memorable Black History Month Program on Friday, February 27th, bringing together students, staff, and families for a meaningful celebration. The program began with a warm welcome from second grade teacher Toni Brewer and Principal Marcia Sutton, setting the tone for a powerful and uplifting event.
Students across multiple grade levels showcased their talents through a variety of performances. Pre-K students performed “Funga Alfafia,” followed by Kindergarten’s presentation of “I Am Black History.” These performances highlighted confidence, creativity, and pride in learning about Black history and culture. First grade students shared an engaging presentation using the acronym “This is Black History,” and second grade followed with a special dance that energized the audience.
The program also featured two inspiring guest speakers. Michelle Watkins encouraged students to embrace who they are and believe in their potential. Later, Mo Carter shared his personal journey, motivating students to work hard and follow their dreams.
The celebration continued with a third grade performance titled “Black Leaders,” honoring influential figures in history. Guests were also given a special sneak preview of the 4th and 5th grade Wax Museum, where students brought historical figures to life through interactive displays. The program concluded with a powerful school-wide performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” led by fourth grade teacher Ms. Pair.
Overall, the event was a heartfelt and inspiring celebration of Black history, student talent, and community. Montview truly created a program to remember, leaving everyone proud and uplifted.
