Students at Montview celebrated Read Across America Week from March 2–6 with an exciting and engaging lineup of activities that made reading fun and memorable for everyone. Each day featured a special theme to encourage participation and school spirit. The week kicked off on Monday with “Hats Off to Reading,” where students wore their favorite hats and enjoyed guest readers from United Way. On Tuesday, students celebrated “Fox in Socks Day” by wearing crazy socks, and they were treated to a visit from special guest author Richard Breitbach, who shared a heartfelt story about his blind and deaf dog, Toffee.
Wednesday brought lots of laughter with “Wacky Wednesday,” as students dressed in silly and mismatched outfits. Guest readers from Redstone Federal Credit Union also visited, sharing stories and incorporating a meaningful lesson about money. To make the day even more exciting, students enjoyed a refreshing Kona Ice treat. On Thursday, students participated in “Read, Care, Mustache Day,” wearing fun mustaches while listening to guest readers from Read Aloud Alabama.
The week wrapped up on Friday with “Sleep Book Day,” where students came to school in their pajamas, creating a cozy reading environment. As a special highlight, every student received a free book to take home, with Pre-K through 2nd grade students receiving Dr. Seuss books that they were especially excited about. The week was filled with joy, learning, and a love for reading, and it would not have been possible without the hard work of librarian Mrs. Nurre and the many volunteers who helped make the event a success.
