Montview hosted an exciting and engaging STEAM Day on Tuesday, April 28, providing students with a full day of hands-on learning experiences. The event was sponsored by the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, which also partnered with a variety of vendors to create interactive stations for students to explore.
Students had the opportunity to rotate through numerous activities, including robotics demonstrations with Botley 2.0 and VEX AIM, engineering challenges, solar science experiments, drone-based “Forces of Flight” activities, paper rocket building and launching, and lessons on cyber safety and phishing. In addition to these, several community partners contributed unique learning experiences. These included “Peeps in Space” with UAH Engineering Technology, a Van de Graaff generator demonstration from the Nutty Scientist, drone flight activities from EarlyWorks Children’s Museum, BristleBots from the Alabama Space Grant Consortium, Ozobots from the AAMU STEAM Lab, a microscope scavenger hunt from Cook’s Museum, and a terrarium and Trash Toss game from the Alabama Water Environmental Association.
The day concluded with an exciting real rocket launch, which was a highlight for many students. Throughout the event, students were actively engaged, collaborating, and learning through exploration. STEAM Day was a fun, memorable, and educational experience that sparked curiosity and enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Montview extends a big thank you to all the organizations and volunteers who helped make the day such a success.
