Women in STEM (WiSTEM) is off and running for the 25-26 school year. WiSTEM is an international organization that is dedicated to promoting gender equality in male-dominated STEM fields, and our chapter is primarily focused on getting young women engaged with various STEM disciplines.

WiSTEM provides new ways for students to get involved with STEM. From hearing professional perspectives to participating in hands-on activities, members are constantly exposed to science, technology, engineering, and math. This past school year, WiSTEM connected their members with engineers, medical technicians, and community leaders. Additionally, members had the opportunity to perform chemical experiments, learn about STEM careers, and build professional skills.

WiSTEM was founded by Zadie Boyd in 2023. “I saw a need for intentional support for our female students,” says Zadie. “It was my goal to create a space where they could connect, hear from women working in STEM fields, and participate in activities that build both confidence and skills.”

It is safe to say Zadie’s vision has been fulfilled. Every meeting, Room 169 is filled with bright young girls who are enthusiastic to learn more about STEM.
