Student teams work together to produce computer code.

On February 28, 2026, New Century Technology High School will have multiple teams competing at the University of Alabama’s Capture-the-Flag Competition (UACTF) hosted by the Crimson Defense Cybersecurity Club and the University of Alabama Computer Science Department. This competition has been taking place for the past 8 years with teams continuing to compete virtually during the COVID Pandemic. Competitor teams of 2-4 people may now choose to compete In-Person or fully Virtually on the day of the event. The event is held on the last Saturday of February every year to allow teams to properly prepare in advance at the start of the Spring Semester while also keeping it from interfering with Spring Break.

The competition includes teams working together to answer questions focused on a variety of categories and topics that include the following:

  • binary exploitation

  • code-breaking and decoding

  • cryptography

  • database security & SQL injection attacks

  • digital forensics

  • file and log analysis

  • network traffic analysis

  • open-source intelligence

  • password cracking

  • reverse engineering

  • social engineering

  • website security

For the past few years, New Century has always shown that our teams are very competitive with teams vying for the top spots until the very end! This is always one of our favorite annual cybersecurity CTF competitions with the University of Alabama going all-out every time to provide a fun and engaging learning experience for all student-competitors while also bringing challenges perfectly tailored to each team’s individual knowledge level.
