Mrs. Carter and Angelice in front of a crowd at National History Day in Washington DC.

In June 2026, rising NCTHS senior, Angelice Black, and Mrs. Carter had the opportunity to attend National History Day in Washington DC. During her junior year AP US History class, Angelice created a documentary about the historical impact of cell phones, which she submitted to the Alabama History Day competition in April. Her documentary placed 2nd in the state of Alabama in the Individual Documentary category, which earned her an invitation to compete at National History Day. For her work, Angelice also received a scholarship from the Huntsville India Association, which generously covered her travel expenses. While in Washington DC, Angelice had the opportunity to visit some of America's most historical sites. When asked if she's considering competing in the Alabama History Day competition again this year, Angelice said she believes she will.

Meanwhile, Ms. Carter is already guiding her new AP US History classes through the research process in the hopes that they will follow in Angelice’s footsteps and gain the opportunity to represent NCTHS and Alabama at the national level again
