This summer our Cafeteria Manager snapped a photo of a student reading books by our Sidewalk Library. The Sidewalk Library was purchased two years ago with funds from our PTA and our librarian stocks it frequently with donated books.
This photo went viral on Facebook and was viewed over 60,000 times. It was shared to reading groups across Alabama and individuals shared the post 111 times! It was amazing that this photo had such an impact!
People from all over the state and outside Alabama commented asking if they could send that particular student books, others asked if there was anything our school needed to further our students' love of reading. One particular Alabama family offered to donate two more Sidewalk Libraries and an additional $500 to purchase books to fill them!! Ms. Gatzke was able to use the $500 gift certificate to purchase almost 200 brand new books from First Book Marketplace! We cannot wait to unveil our new Sidewalk Libraries when they come!
It is so exciting that a moment caught will have such a big impact on our little school and our Rockets!
