Children reading books in a row with the text Read Across America 2026

Read Across America is celebrated every year around Dr. Seuss' birthday at the beginning of March. Ms. Gatzke, our librarian, and Dr. Aquila, our parent coordinator, worked very hard this year to coordinate lots of guest readers.

On Monday of Read Across America, teachers swapped classrooms with other teachers in a different grade level and read a picture book to their "new" class. This is a fun tradition Ms. Gatzke started a few years ago.

On Tuesday, we had guest readers from United Way of Madison County in Huntsville, as well as guest readers from Covenant Presbyterian Church. We even had a guest reader who was bilingual and read in both Spanish and English!

On Wednesday, we had a super busy day! Superintendent Clarence Sutton read to fifth grade, School Board President Ryan Renaud read to fourth grade, and Huntsville Havoc players read to third grade. We also had guest readers from Delta Pi Nu, DKG Chapter of women educators.

Thursday that week we had more amazing guest readers from our community!

On Friday, United Way volunteers came to read again and we also had 20 athletes from Columbia High School read to classes!

We had an amazing week of reading at Ridgecrest!
