Students counting beans as part of the Math ACAP Experience. Our incredible Math Coach, Ms. Jonda Brooks, took the time to plan and implement Math ACAP Experiences with second, third, fourth and fifth grades to help get them ready for ACAP testing! The ACAP Experience is designed to help reduce student anxiety and build confidence through hands-on practice. They had an opening session with ice breakers to warm the students up. They competed in a Wayground quiz to see what students already knew about ACAP and then broke into 3 groups to rotate through breakout rooms.

The breakout rooms consisted of a Mock Test and Fill the Hexagons game. They went over the questions and answers to the test before partnering up to do the tangram game. The second breakout room focused on line plots. Students reviewed line plots, grabbed a handful of beans and then counted them. They wrote their data on charts and then created line plots as a group with sticky notes on the wall. The third breakout session was ACAP Bingo where they used what they learned in the Wayground quiz to play bingo.

It was such a fun and meaningful way to prepare for ACAP!
