Rolling Hills Elementary had an out-of-this-world learning opportunity this week as engineering students from The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) brought their award-winning moonbuggy to campus. The visit sparked excitement and curiosity across the school as students from Pre-K through 6th grade explored hands-on STEM learning inspired by real engineering work.
The UAH team shared how the moonbuggy was designed, built, and tested for competition, giving students a close-up look at engineering in action. Classes were able to ask questions, examine the vehicle, and learn how creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving all play essential roles in engineering projects.
In addition to seeing the moonbuggy, every grade participated in a special STEM engagement activity. Students worked with engineering challenges tailored to their grade level. The activities encouraged critical thinking, communication, and hands-on exploration—core elements of the STEM learning experience.
The visit brought smiles, inspiration, and a deeper understanding of how science and engineering connect to the world around us. Rolling Hills is grateful to the UAH engineering students for sharing their expertise and for helping our young Cougars dream big about the possibilities their future might hold.
