Rolling Hills Elementary School is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a month full of opportunities for students to learn, explore, and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, languages, music, art, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.
Under the theme “Blasting Into Excellence,” RHES students are taking a cultural journey around the world through engaging activities throughout the week.
Music Monday
Students kick off the week by experiencing the sounds and rhythms of Hispanic and Latino cultures. Music Monday introduces students to traditional and contemporary music while highlighting the important role music plays in cultural celebrations.
Tradition Tuesday
On Tradition Tuesday, students travel virtually to different Spanish-speaking countries to discover unique customs, celebrations, foods, landmarks, and traditions. Students explore countries including Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Ecuador, Cuba, Honduras, Spain, Argentina, Venezuela, Equatorial Guinea, and Bolivia.
Word Wednesday
Word Wednesday gives students the opportunity to learn Spanish words and phrases while discovering the importance of language and communication. Students can expand their vocabulary while making connections between Spanish and English.
Thinker Thursday
On Thinker Thursday, students explore the accomplishments and contributions of Hispanic and Latino leaders, innovators, artists, athletes, scientists, and other influential individuals. These activities encourage students to think, ask questions, and discover how people have made a difference in their communities and beyond.
Art Friday
The celebration wraps each week with Art Friday, giving students an opportunity to explore Hispanic and Latino-inspired art, colors, patterns, symbols, and creative traditions. Students can express what they have learned through their own artistic creations.
At Rolling Hills Elementary, we believe that learning about different cultures helps students develop understanding, respect, curiosity, and appreciation for the diverse world around them. Hispanic Heritage Month provides our Cougars with meaningful opportunities to celebrate the traditions and contributions that enrich our school and community.
Through these activities, RHES students are learning that our differences make our community stronger—and that there is always something new to discover.
Rolling Hills Elementary is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month as we continue Blasting Into Excellence!
