Last week, Sonnie Hereford Elementary turned college and career readiness into a school-wide celebration. From kindergarten to sixth grade, students explored who they want to be and the paths that can get them there, one themed day at a time.

We kicked off with “The Future Is Bright” as students and staff wore neon and sunglasses to symbolize bright futures. On “Dress for Success”, Wildcats arrived in professional attire and learned about first impressions, handshakes, and speaking with confidence. “Rep Your College” brought campus pride to our hallways as teachers shared fun facts about their alma maters and led mini-lessons on majors, mascots, and scholarships. On “Career Dress-Up Day,” classrooms transformed into hands-on labs where students tried out job roles, from engineers sketching plans to chefs measuring ingredients and teachers leading read-alouds. We wrapped with Wildcat Spirit Day, reminding everyone that today’s effort builds tomorrow’s opportunities.

Beyond the outfits, the week hit real learning targets: goal-setting, vocabulary (major, résumé, internship), writing (career reflections), and math (graphing “career interests” by class). Most importantly, our youngest Wildcats saw that big dreams start with small daily choices—showing up, working hard, and being kind.

College and Career Week made one thing clear: the future is bright, and our Wildcats are ready to chase it.
